Escondido council authorizes city attorney to enter national opioid settlements — closed session report

The city attorney reported the council voted 5-0 to authorize joining settlements with Purdue Pharma and certain secondary manufacturer defendants in cases referenced by staff as CL-17061, CL-17073 and CL-1703274. The city manager was authorized to begin developing an expenditure plan for council approval.
The council’s report said one closed-session matter — Beets v. City of Escondido — was continued to Oct. 1, 2025. The opioid settlement matter was the only closed-session item the council identified as appropriate for public report.
