Council approves up to $20,000 from pool sales tax to finish local Eagle Scout project

The Marysville City Council voted to provide funds not to exceed $20,000 from the swimming pool sales tax to complete an Eagle Scout project, after the scout reported he had raised roughly half of the project's estimated cost.

Michael Pilso, the Eagle Scout candidate, told the council he had raised $20,000 in cash and material donations toward an estimated $40,000 project to build a structure modeled on the pool house for Parks and Recreation. "So far, I've raised 20,000 out of the $40,000 for the estimated price of the project," Pilso said.

Pilso described remaining work and cost needs: he said finishing the blockwork would cost an estimated $13,000; he had $5,000–$6,000 in cash available toward that item and anticipated about $7,000 for roofing. The council discussed funding sources and the availability of the dedicated swimming-pool sales tax fund; one councilmember noted there were sufficient funds in that account and moved to approve assistance.

A motion was made to provide the funds necessary "not to exceed $20,000" from the swimming-pool sales tax; the motion was seconded and approved by vocal vote.

Pilso said he planned to continue fundraising and hoped to begin brick work before winter. The council thanked him for his work and encouraged him to continue.
