Representatives of Red Rock Media presented a three-year recap of the Stars and Stripes fireworks and music event at Sand Hollow and asked the Hurricane City Council about sponsorship, matching funds and extending the city's partnership.
Mike, representing Red Rock Media, said the company has worked with the city since 2023 to add synchronized music to the fireworks presentation. He described incremental improvements from 2023 through 2025, credited Liberty Village and other sponsors, and summarized Red Rock Media’s in-kind investments (promotion, DJ endorsements, staff hours and rented sound systems). Red Rock presented a slide showing promotional investment but said the event is not a money-maker for the company.
Red Rock asked whether the city would consider matching sponsorship funds—an example discussed at the meeting was a hypothetical $10,000 sponsorship that the city might match—to raise the event’s fireworks budget and expand programming for a special 2026 celebration. Red Rock also proposed exploring a three-year partnership agreement and asked the council if it would consider extending the current arrangement; Red Rock said it would provide a proposal for formal consideration.
Council and staff discussed logistics. City staff and Red Rock emphasized that Sand Hollow is a state park, so any expanded festival ideas (tournaments, drone shows, extended activities) would require state-park approval. The council discussed cleanup and whether the county could help with post-event cleanup; staff suggested inmate crews and county roads crews as possible resources. City staff said parks crews have helped with Monday cleanup after the Saturday event in previous years.
The council and Red Rock also discussed safety and weather constraints for potential drone shows and noted that the existing fireworks program is viewed positively by attendees. Staff asked Red Rock to bring a formal proposal to a future work meeting; council members agreed to schedule a work meeting to discuss sponsorship, possible matching funds and a multi-year agreement.
Why it matters: The Stars and Stripes event is a community celebration that the city and Red Rock Media say has grown in attendance and complexity. Expanding the event or increasing fireworks will change costs, require intergovernmental approvals (state parks), and potentially require additional cleanup resources.
Next steps: Red Rock Media will draft a proposal for a multi-year partnership and sponsorship match. City staff will place the item on a future council work meeting agenda for full discussion.
