Norwood conservation commission seeks proposals for Gaudau/Bridal Pond interim outlet fixes; staff updates on parks and stormwater projects

Commissioner John (reporting) said the commission has Community Preservation Committee funding for a feasibility study but needs a short‑term, durable interim fix to reduce sand loss and downstream wetland degradation while the study proceeds.
Commission staff collected three initial price estimates: approximately $50,000 for a detailed scope (deemed more than needed for an interim fix), about $5,000 for a midrange option that matched the commission’s interim needs, and $2,500 for a limited desktop review. Commissioners favored the midrange approach — a field visit, draft memo and recommendation for an interim solution followed by a final memo — and asked staff to ask the firms for a clear list of deliverables and a firm (not to‑exceed) cost for the interim scope so the commission can compare proposals at a subsequent meeting.
Separately, staff reported routine conservation work and pending maintenance items: Cooper Park had a damaged grate and bent housing likely struck by a truck; DPW installed boulders to prevent further vehicle access and staff will pursue replacement parts and repairs. Meadowbrook creek improvements are on pause for about a month pending headwall deliveries; work to improve channel conveyance and remove jams has been completed in part and restoration is planned after headwalls arrive. Staff also solicited volunteers for the commission’s Norwood Day table (Sept. 6) and listed several site‑visit follow‑ups, including additional erosion control requests at Coakley Middle School’s construction site.
The commission agreed to ask Par (firm name in the materials), Tetra Tech and Stantec to submit formal proposals with deliverables and costs and to review those proposals at the next meeting.
