School board approves consent agenda, new hires and extracurricular appointments; votes 6-0 on routine items

The Franklin County Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees approved the consent agenda, a list of new staff hires and extracurricular appointments at its regular meeting Monday, Aug. 11.

Board members voted to approve the consent agenda and related personnel items by voice/hand vote, each recorded as six in favor, zero opposed; one trustee (Kim) was recorded absent. The items included minutes, expenditures, resignations, a list of new hires across district schools and a slate of extracurricular coaching appointments.

Superintendent Dustin Garing read the list of new hires into the record; the new-staff list included multiple paraprofessionals across elementary and middle schools, a Dean of Students at BES (Adam Kelly) and a teacher at FCHS (Emily Miller). The board discussed whether several hires at BES were backfill or additional positions; the administration said most were replacements, with a small number added for rising special-education self-contained enrollments and two LES classrooms with high student counts.

The board also approved several extracurricular appointments including varsity assistant and freshman girls volleyball coaches, cross-country co-ed staff at the middle school and a volunteer assistant football coach at the middle school. Those items were presented and approved as a block during the personnel, extracurricular section of the agenda.

Board members praised the recruitment of local graduates into district positions and noted continued attention to staffing across the schools.
