Depew board authorizes consultant to prepare WIIA application for Sewer Phase 9

The Village Board of Depew on Aug. 11 authorized Municipal Solutions Incorporated to prepare and submit an application for the New York State Water Infrastructure Improvement Act (WIIA) grant on behalf of the village for the Phase 9 sanitary sewer improvement project.
Administrator and staff said the engineering report (Phase 9 sanitary sewer evaluation survey and corrective action plan) recommends proceeding with the project to improve wastewater quality and protect public health. Staff explained WIIA grants generally may pay up to 25% of eligible project costs and that the village was seeking that funding to reduce the affordability burden on residents and property owners.
Why it matters: WIIA funding can provide material grant support for sewer infrastructure projects that otherwise require local capital spending or borrowing. Preparation of a competitive application requires consultant work, engineering reports and documentation of project need and affordability.
Next steps: Municipal Solutions Inc. will prepare the application. The mayor was authorized to execute the application and any necessary supporting documents; staff will return to the board with application status updates. The resolution took immediate effect upon passage by roll call.
