Commission approves off‑road race on Antelope Road with fire‑safety conditions urged

Donald Jackson of Legacy Racing Association LLC presented an application to use County Antelope Road and to close part of Comstock Road for an off‑road event Sept. 5–6, 2025. Jackson said the event has operated annually and uses a roughly 60‑mile loop with pit areas near Iron Springs and at an Antelope crossing; he described participant safety measures including flagged volunteers, radio communications and on‑site medical teams with water tanks.
"All of our participants are required to have spark arresters on their vehicles to help mitigate that," Jackson said, describing required extinguishers and on‑vehicle equipment.
Iron County Fire Warden Spencer Ola urged the organizer and the commission to secure a trained brush/engine resource on site because of elevated fire danger. "Fire concerns are huge for Utah right now," Ola said, and recommended a contracted local fire unit to remain dedicated to the event rather than relying on state or federal resources that might be pulled away.
Commissioners discussed outreach to nearby gravel and pit operators on Comstock Road; organizers said they had contacted private landowners and would coordinate further. The commission moved, seconded and approved permission to use Antelope Road and to close Comstock Road for the event, and Jackson said the organizers will work with local fire and sheriff personnel on on‑site coverage and notifications.
Why it matters: The event crosses public and private lands and occurs during a season of increased wildfire risk; commissioners approved the route and closure while directing organizers to coordinate fire protection with local departments and to notify nearby businesses on Comstock Road.
