Gravette School District reviews assessment results and outlines targeted intervention, curriculum-tracking plan

Becky, a staff member, presented assessment results and district plans at an interim Gravette School District meeting, describing performance levels, cohort trends and steps the district will take to boost student achievement.

Becky said the district uses a four-level scale for recent assessments, with “at level 3, it means that they are proficient at grade level,” and that “level 2 is not quite at grade level yet, but it’s getting close.” She showed cohort charts that track the class of 2026 from earlier grades to the current year and highlighted areas of improvement and decline across grade bands.

The presentation gave district leaders a grade-by-grade view of proficiency and participation. Becky pointed to specific gains — for example, she said fifth-grade math and sixth-grade reading improved to place in the top four in the region — and also noted declines in some cohorts. She emphasized that mobility and staffing changes affect year-to-year comparisons: “we’re bringing in a lot of transfers,” and some grades have grown past 150 students, which she described as a stress point for consistent instruction.

Becky credited intervention staff and reading specialists for gains in targeted groups and noted the district’s plan to concentrate on students just below proficiency. “Where we’re kind of missing the mark is on that level 2. And so we’ve gotta really hone in on ... tier 2 interventions,” she said. She also named Kim Brockhart as the district’s testing coordinator: “Kim Brockhart is our testing coordinator, and she also helps put this data together.”

District actions the presenter described or referenced: - A curriculum leadership team will be formed with a representative from each grade level to meet quarterly and focus on priority standards in math, ELA and science, building vertically-aligned assessments and tracking those standards through the year. - The board previously voted in April to fund an additional reading specialist position; the district intends to recruit for that role during the school year when the right candidate is identified. - Principals will present school-level data and more granular intervention plans at the next regular meeting.

Timing and data availability were discussed. Becky said K–2 results may not be available until October for this assessment cycle and that the state is working to provide data earlier in future years; she described a goal of getting results within two weeks of finishing assessments when and where that becomes possible. The presentation materials include cohort detail and per-grade breakdowns that will be shared with principals and used to revise building improvement plans.

The board also discussed next steps for school improvement planning, including reviewing where tier-2 interventions can be strengthened and maintaining staffing levels of interventionists. Becky said the district will monitor cohorts over multiple years and compare with similar districts to identify promising practices.

The meeting moved later into an executive session announcement for personnel and legal matters.
