Committee forwards Mauldin school‑resource officer agreement for 2025–26 to full council

The public safety committee on Aug. 4 unanimously voted to send the city’s 2025–26 school‑resource‑officer (SRO) agreement with Greenville County School District to full council for approval.

Committee members were told the agreement will place two SROs at Mauldin High School, one at the Career Center, one at Mauldin Middle School, one at Mauldin Elementary School and one at Bethwell Elementary School for the 2025–26 school year. Staff said the school district will increase its contribution to support the SROs to roughly $150,000 for the program this year, up from about $120,000 in the prior year; staff described details on school contributions to the committee and said the same arrangement is expected to apply to public schools only, with charter‑school participation to be addressed by a later committee meeting.

Committee members also asked about the agreement’s automatic renewal language. Staff said the agreement will automatically renew but that any rate adjustments would require a renewed or amended agreement to be presented to the committee.

Council members made a motion to forward the agreement to full council; the committee recorded a unanimous vote in favor and the item will be considered by the full council.
