Public Works staff member Parsons told council the wastewater plant (built 1981) experienced interior ceiling collapse in the office area after recent heavy rains. Parsons said contractors who inspected the roof concluded the roof required replacement before interior repairs could proceed. Parsons requested the city award the contract for roof replacement to R. Turley Roofing Inc. for $33,500; council approved the award and then approved a supplemental appropriation of $33,500 from the 1¢ capital fund to cover the work.
Parsons said the roof type is a gravelized/asphalt system with metal components and that multiple contractors confirmed replacement was necessary. Council members noted the contractor is local and has previously performed work for the city. The actions were presented as unplanned capital expenses caused by recent weather exposure and deferred maintenance dating to the facility’s original construction.
Votes: Both the contract award and the appropriations resolution were approved by roll call and recorded as unanimous.
