Commission approves up to $4,000 for preliminary design and budget for Memorial Baseball Park concession/restroom

The Huron City Commission on Aug. 4 approved an agreement with PCIC Construction Company Inc. for preparation of a seismic design and preliminary budget for a new concession/restroom building at Memorial Baseball Park, at a cost not to exceed $4,000 plus applicable taxes. Parks and Recreation Director Chad Schroeder presented the item.
Schroeder and commissioners said the design work will produce numbers needed to compare options discussed at a prior work session — including a storm shelter option, player development center, concessions and restrooms — so the city can make an informed decision. Schroeder and other city staff noted FEMA has asked the city to decide whether to accept a grant soon; having a preliminary budget will help evaluate that offer.
Commissioners agreed the design work should be done quickly so the baseball board and city staff have sufficient information to decide. The commission approved the agreement by roll call and confirmed funding will come from reserves already set aside for the project.
PCIC will prepare plans sufficient to provide cost estimates and options for city and baseball stakeholders to review; the agreement was described as a step to enable an informed grant decision and project selection.
