Austintown principals report fall events, state testing and student accomplishments
Summary
Austintown principals reported fall festivals, a combined Halloween parade, state testing dates and extracurricular achievements at the Oct. 23 board meeting; the district also recognized recent retirees and a student’s perfect ACT score.
Kathy Dorbish, principal of Austintown Elementary School, gave a principal’s report on Oct. 23 outlining upcoming events and recent activities across district schools.
Dorbish said AES hosted a Fall Fest in the bus lot between AES and AIS and invited the public to attend after the board meeting. She announced a combined Halloween parade on Oct. 31 with the intermediate school, thanked PTA volunteers and highlighted counselor Kelly Mills’s presentation at the state counselors’ convention. Dorbish reported that AIS administered Grade 3 reading state tests on Oct. 21–22 and that Fitch High School’s rock band would visit to perform a Halloween concert the following week. At Fitch, sophomore students took the PSAT/pre-ACT on Oct. 9 and received scores on Oct. 23; Dorbish said results help students and teachers plan instruction. She also thanked a donor, Ryan Campit Carpet, for donating carpet and labor for the rock band room.
Separately during superintendent remarks and board comments, the district recognized five recent retirees and congratulated a Fitch High School student, John Chek, for earning a perfect score on the ACT. The superintendent said the retirees together represent about 115 years of service. Board members also mentioned the Austintown Fitch Athletic Hall of Fame weekend and wished students in fall sports good luck.
These items were presented as routine informational reports; no board action was required.
