Austintown board approves contract with ESC of Eastern Ohio, MOU with teachers' union and multiple consent items

The Austintown Local School District Board of Education on Oct. 23 approved a set of consent items and formal agreements, including a contractual agreement with the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio and a memorandum of understanding with the Austintown Education Association (OEA-NEA).

On the superintendent’s recommendation the board approved a contractual agreement with the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio. The board also approved a memorandum of understanding by and between the Austintown Local School District and the Austintown Education Association, affiliated with the Ohio Education Association (OEA) and the National Education Association (NEA). Both measures were moved and seconded on the record and carried on roll-call votes.

Other routine actions the board approved by consent included the meeting agenda for Oct. 23 and multiple consent items presented by the treasurer and superintendent (items described on the meeting agenda as "a through d" and "a through i"). The board also set its next public meetings for Nov. 20, with a 4 p.m. meeting at the Central Office and a 5 p.m. session in the AMS cafeteria; that scheduling motion passed by roll call.

All votes on the listed consent items and agreements were recorded as affirmative by the board members called on the record: Missus Smrek; Mister Sherwood; Mister Markham; Missus Mok; and Mister Porter. The meeting concluded after the board moved to adjourn, which carried by the same recorded affirmative votes.

The meeting record on Oct. 23 does not include publicly read contract dollar amounts or detailed MOU provisions during the open session; the motions approved the contracts and MOU as presented to the board. The board clerk/treasurer and superintendent will retain the executed documents as part of the district record for public inspection according to board policy.
