Commission sends draft RV-campground ordinance back to planning board; county proceeds with cleanup quotes for abandoned mobile home park

The Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to return a draft ordinance governing RV and associated campgrounds to the county planning board for further outreach and to allow affected campground owners to present comments.

Planning Director Woodley told the board that community members had asked for more time to provide input before the hearing stage. "SAS recommendation at this point is to essentially send the ordinance back to the planning board, allow them schedule some time for ... property owner business owners to come in and share some concerns directly and then let the planning board ... consider those," Woodley said. A commissioner moved to return the draft to the planning board; the board approved the motion by voice vote.

On a separate planning matter, Woodley updated the board on an abandoned mobile home park east of Marion on Jacktown Road. The board had previously authorized action; Woodley said quotes for cleanup were due the next day and staff would proceed with the lowest qualified bidder once insurance and other requirements were confirmed. He said the county would charge the cleanup costs to the property; if the owner does not pay, the tax collector can proceed to foreclosure sale to recover costs.

Commissioners did not set a new hearing date for the RV-campground ordinance at Tuesday's meeting. The board authorized the planning-board referral and heard the mobile park cleanup update as a status report with steps that staff will take to execute the previously authorized cleanup.
