Prison board hears updates on roof, fence detection and canine program; enclosure re-bid planned

The Chester County Prison warden told the prison board of inspectors on July 23 that most major security projects are either complete or nearing completion but a few items remain to be finished.
"All the major projects are either nearing completion or have been completed that we have listed," the Warden said. He said roof repairs are expected to be finished before the next snowfall and that the fence-detection system requires "a little bit of tie up" work to finalize.
The Warden described the facility's canine program as expanding: two dogs are currently certified, a third dog is certified while the handler's certification remains in progress. He listed the dogs' names as Uno, Banks and Nugget and said the canines have been trained for bomb detection, drug detection and cellular-device/electronics detection; some dogs also have patrol capabilities and can be deployed with the sheriff's office.
The Warden said the county will re-bid construction work for a canine enclosure after the first bid came in "dramatically high." No contract award or schedule for the re-bid was recorded in the meeting minutes.
No formal vote was required on the status updates. The board accepted the report and moved on to other agenda items.
