The Hooksett Highway Safety Advisory Board appointed town engineer Bruce Thomas as chair and resident representative Jamieson as vice chair, agreed to meet quarterly on the second Friday at 9:30 a.m. beginning Dec. 12, and adopted a procedure to log and process resident traffic-safety requests.
The board agreed that requests will be date-stamped on receipt and routed through the town administrator’s office to the project coordinator, Leigh Anne McLaughlin, who will maintain a highway safety request log and the committee’s recommendation spreadsheet. Staff support will notify requesting residents in writing after Town Council action.
Geralyn Chiodelli, executive assistant, made the motion to appoint Bruce Thomas as chair; James Zegley seconded, and members confirmed the appointments by voice vote. Chiodelli and other staff said the group would use an Excel-based log maintained by the project coordinator to track requests and committee recommendations.
Members discussed how recommendations will reach the Town Council. The group agreed the chair will typically present committee recommendations to council, and that the chair may bring subject-matter staff—such as the fire chief or police chief—to council meetings when those departments are relevant to an item.
The board also confirmed a draft procedure that requires requests to be routed through the town administrator’s office so staff can determine the correct coordinator. The project coordinator’s title will be used in the procedure (rather than a personal name) to avoid rewording the form if staff change.
The meeting concluded with instructions to post the committee and request form on the town website and to promote the committee at upcoming town events so residents know how to submit safety requests.
The board adjourned by unanimous voice vote.
