Bradley County mayor asks commission to add Cleveland Utilities contract, opioid settlement resolution to next agenda

Mayor Davis asked the Bradley County Commission to place two items on next week’s agenda: a proposed five-year contract with Cleveland Utilities for internet service for the recreation department, and a resolution to accept additional opioid litigation settlements.
The mayor said, “First 1 is, a 5 year contract with Cleveland Utilities for Internet service for the recreation department. I'd respectfully ask that that be put on the agenda next week.” He added, “they've got some more settlements on the opioid, lawsuits that have been going on for the last couple years. And this is a resolution where we agree and to accept basically the additional, grama settlements, based on the same rules as before, I think.” Commissioner Slater volunteered to sponsor the contract item.
The request to add the items is a request for agenda placement rather than a final decision; the commission will consider the proposals at its next scheduled voting session, the mayor said. The opioid item was described as follows by the mayor: “a resolution where we agree and to accept basically the additional, grama settlements, based on the same rules as before,” with no funding amounts or distribution details provided at the meeting.
In his report, Mayor Davis also said he has met with the city to organize a fire tax committee and hopes to set a meeting within one to two weeks, and he noted a recent community event: “I had the pleasure this past weekend of attending the, BMX State Nationals ... our very own Bradley BMX,” adding that the event drew visitors and positive comments about the county park.
No formal votes were recorded during the mayor’s report at this meeting; the commission chair acknowledged the agenda requests and identified Commissioner Slater as the sponsor for the Cleveland Utilities item. The commission will take formal action, if any, at a subsequent voting session.
