The Select Board voted to appoint Luis Velasquez to the Town of Danvers Human Rights and Inclusion Committee following a committee nomination and a brief public introduction.
Johan Hunter, incoming HRIC chair, and Jorge Saint Estalazar, HRIC co‑vice chair, introduced Velasquez and described his background working with the YMCA on cross‑border youth exchange programs and with immigrant communities. Velasquez, a Danvers resident since 2010, spoke about his community work and commitment to ensuring residents feel seen and supported.
Several Select Board members and committee members endorsed the appointment. One board member said she would defer to the HRIC liaison on the appointment. After a motion, second and voice vote, the board approved Velasquez’s appointment. The committee will proceed with its calendar and activities for the year with Velasquez as a member.
