Columbia economic development report highlights GM and Ultium announcements, rising local metrics

Will Evans, the city’s economic development presenter, told the City of Columbia Council on Aug. 14 that recent pipeline metrics show continued private-market development and mixed signals in industrial vacancy and job growth.
Evans said the city’s industrial vacancy rate had risen to 9.3 percent because new private-market product came online, especially north of the county, increasing available space for prospective employers. “That is gonna make our job a little bit easier because we have more product to be out there to show,” Evans said.
