The Senior Citizens Advisory Board voted to approve the final minutes of its Aug. 7, 2025, meeting by voice vote during the Sept. 4 meeting.
Vito Galati (Ward 2) moved to approve the minutes. The board chair called for the question and members responded "Aye." The chair declared the motion carried.
Several members raised other matters during ward reports. Charles Lee (Ward 5) said he had a petition signed by "quite a few members" opposing a recent increase in fitness fees at senior centers. Gregory Gray told the board the fee increases were implemented "in accordance with their mandate" from parks and recreation and that staff would follow up with the board chair and council staff to address member concerns.
Ward representatives reported a range of local events and concerns:
- Vito Galati (Ward 2) described a road-safety forum organized by the Road Equity Alliance that led to installation of new traffic systems in three neighborhood locations and a pending study of tubular delineators for a high-traffic corridor.
- David Tilzer (Ward 4) said Sun City renamed a volunteer group the Sun City patrol for legal reasons, noted two Sun City restaurants undergoing renovations including a leased section with gaming machines, and highlighted upcoming memory-and-balance screenings and a Sept. 24 seminar on contractor fraud aimed at seniors.
- Caroline Mosdine (Ward 6) and others discussed day-trip possibilities to the UNR botanic garden and noted that Ovation housing near Decatur and the 215 is accepting applications; she also mentioned a free concert at the Centennial Hills Amphitheater and that Councilwoman Nancy Bruni holds regular community office hours.
- Nicole Graham (Vice Chair; Ward 1) reported a dementia-friends training at Lieberman Senior Center with more than 10 participants and said she is tracking the Campus of Hope project, which has local controversy over location.
Multiple board members said rising costs of living and housing affordability remain a frequent concern in constituent contacts. Chair O'Rear Cameron reiterated that many calls to board members now relate to tradeoffs between health care and housing costs.
Gray accepted a petition from Charles Lee and agreed to coordinate next steps on the fitness-fee issue with board leadership.
