The Moorhead Area Public Schools board on Aug. 18 approved two contracts to accept a $1.2 million electric school bus grant from the Minnesota Department of Commerce and to hire Highland Fleets to provide procurement, infrastructure installation and long-term operations and maintenance for three electric buses.
District staff told the board the grant covers roughly 90% of each bus and 95% of the charging infrastructure, and that Highland Fleets will provide a 10-year service agreement. "The grant will cover 90 percent of the bus cost and 95 percent of the charging infrastructure costs," said Sean Schneider, the district's transportation director. Schneider said Highland Fleets will offer a fixed-cost support agreement of $24,000 per bus per year for 10 years.
