The student, identified in the transcript as Shrandy Tarver and described as a Mountain Pointe sophomore, told the board she was threatened and then physically confronted at school in mid‑August following a dispute in dance class. “As I got done dancing, I sat down to put the fan on me… another girl, Rontesha Thompson, she had a problem with me putting the fan on me,” the student said in testimony, describing a verbal argument that later led to threats and a confrontation on Aug. 19.
Her mother, Shondra Jackson, told the board she believes school administrators treated the student unfairly and that a requested manifestation-determination meeting took place without the student present. “We feel… we have received unfair treatment from the administration at Mountain Pointe High School,” Jackson said, adding that the family had asked for a safety plan and had not received a reply about what protections would be in place if the student returned to campus.
Jackson said her daughter is an AP honors student enrolled in multi-year programs and is concerned that a move to online instruction for safety reasons would disrupt those programs. She asked the board to investigate how administrators handled the incident and to consider the impact on the student’s education.
The transcript records slightly different spellings of the other student’s name in testimony (transcribed as Rontesha and later Rontasia Thompson); the transcript does not contain additional identifying information for that student.
At the close of public comment Superintendent Dr. Wilson was asked to follow up. A board member invited Wilson to respond and the superintendent indicated staff would follow up on the family’s concerns.
No formal board action was recorded during the meeting on this matter; the request was made during the public comment period and was limited per board policy to potential referral to staff for study or future agenda consideration.
