The Dare County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 3 approved a revised spending resolution for opioid settlement funds that re-categorizes line items to match state reporting and authorizes $383,700 in allocations for the 2024–25 period.
County staff said this vote did not change the total amount available; it reallocated existing settlement proceeds among five state-approved strategies. The authorized expenditures included a post-overdose response team ($71,282) to provide peer follow-up and harm-reduction linkage, evidence-based addiction treatment tuition support ($45,000) for uninsured residents, recovery support services including a recovery court coordinator and transportation/assistance ($142,118), reentry program supports at the detention center ($60,000), and naloxone and fentanyl test strip distribution ($65,300).
The board adopted the resolution required under the state's memorandum of agreement for opioid settlements; the resolution specifies the MOA exhibit items funded, individual amounts and a July 1, 2024–June 30, 2025 expenditure period. Commissioners approved the resolution unanimously.
