AOA donates $102,000 to county; funds support demolition of blighted homes and local events

SUNBURY, Pa. — Representatives of AOA presented a $102,000 donation to Northumberland County commissioners during the public meeting on Aug. 5 and described how the group’s fundraising supports demolition of blighted homes and other local community programs.

The presenters told commissioners the AOA project has grown to draw roughly 50,000 visitors annually and that funds raised at AOA events — including a September “Fight the Blight” benefit — are donated to local municipalities and to the Northumberland County Housing Authority to assist demolition of blighted properties.

An AOA representative said the organization has operated 11½ years in its current form and that the annual donation helps county programs and local municipalities including Shamokin, Zerbe Township, East/West Cameron, Coal Township and Mount Carmel Township. The presenter said the AOA also plans more events and additional on-site attractions to increase tourism to lower Northumberland County.
