Resident asks Hartland to extend temporary parking restrictions for festivals and major services

Val Wisniewski, a resident of 511 Renson Road, told the Village Board on Aug. 25 that temporary no-parking measures used during the St. Charles Festival have improved safety in past years and asked the village to continue that practice and enforce the restrictions.
"This past Easter, without those restrictions, traffic quickly became unsafe," Wisniewski said, describing cars parked on both sides of a street while vehicles entered and left. She said she saw a police vehicle with lights activated unable to pass on Renton Road because of congestion.
Wisniewski asked the village to consider extending temporary parking restrictions to major church services such as Christmas and Easter, to enforce restrictions consistently during the festival and to commission a parking or traffic study for the neighborhood, which she said has limited ways out and increasing school traffic when Heartland North and St. Charles School are in session.
She said she has lived in the neighborhood for 25 years and has observed substantial growth in school populations without corresponding traffic control changes. The board did not take immediate action at the meeting but acknowledged the request.
