Com described work on parking-lot curb painting, repairs to playground decking, trail clearing after storm damage and equipment maintenance, including suspension repairs on a district truck and installation of airbags. He said crews applied wood chips at the elementary and middle schools and completed pressure washing of the plaza by the football field.
"We did some concrete work at the elementary, painted — almost done painting at the playground," Com said. He described invasive weeds and storm-related erosion that required additional cleanup and said the grounds team aimed to have visible improvements in place for open house.
Housekeeping supervisor Martha Martinez told the board the summer was challenging due to staffing shortages early in the season but that two full-time employees were recently hired. Martinez asked the board to consider funding to purchase additional equipment, saying the new hires helped but the department still needs tools to maintain facilities effectively.
No board action was taken; the presentation was informational. Board members thanked the maintenance and custodial teams for their summer work and noted that districts often schedule follow-up maintenance and equipment requests in later budget discussions.
Context The supervisors said the summer work was aimed at extending the life of existing assets (for example, by refinishing splintered playground boards) and preparing facilities for the school year. Martinez noted that some equipment purchases remain pending and asked for board support in upcoming budget considerations.
