The Monroe-Woodbury Central School District Board of Education took a series of routine votes on Aug. 12, approving the revised agenda, minutes, tax warrant and tax rates for 2025–26, personnel appointments, business and financial items, and Committee on Special Education recommendations.
The board approved the meeting's revised agenda at the start of the session. After the code of conduct public hearing and presentation, the board approved the 2025–26 code of conduct (see separate story). The board then approved minutes from the August 2025 meeting; adopted an updated board calendar; and approved establishment of tax rules, the tax warrant and tax rates for 2025–26. Mr. Cahill noted the district spans five towns and explained that although the district's levy increased by 1.5 percent, the apportionment process and state equalization values mean tax-rate changes vary across the towns.
On personnel items the board approved items numbered 12.1 through 12.21, which included the hiring of Diane Gentile as district clerk. The board recognized Lori Hawk, who is retiring after long service to the district, and passed the personnel slate by motion and voice vote.
Business and financial items (13.1 through 13.5) were approved; Mr. Cahill said those items included eight contracts, three donations and a declaration of obsolete items. The board also approved recommendations from the Committee on Special Education (items covering preschool, secondary and out-of-district placements) after motions and seconds were made. Several votes were recorded by voice with the presiding officer calling "Aye" and announcing "Motion carries." The board then adjourned to an executive session to discuss personnel and salary matters.
Donations announced during the meeting: New York School Insurance Reciprocal donated $1,000 to the high school guidance office; the New York Jets donated $1,000 to the girls flag football team; and Orange and Rockland donated $600 worth of STEM materials to North Main Elementary School.
