Fort Worth City Council approves package of zoning, economic and infrastructure measures; denies neighborhood rezoning request

The Fort Worth City Council on Aug. 12 approved a slate of zoning applications, economic development agreements and infrastructure resolutions, adopted the East Side transportation plan and denied a highly contested rezoning request for property at 2521 Oakland Boulevard.

Council members voted to approve agreements bringing Adam Industries — a microelectronic prototyping and semiconductor development firm — to the city and to authorize multiple zoning and site-plan cases across Fort Worth, while also approving a resolution to acquire land rights needed for the Marys Creek force main via eminent domain. Separately, council denied a 50% tax abatement request from Prince Hall Gardens and approved an extension/expansion of a homelessness pilot program described as a step toward a citywide program for residents with chronic homelessness and severe mental-health needs.

The meeting followed the typical agenda pattern: special recognitions and proclamations, presentations, consent items, public hearings and zoning items. Several zoning and site-plan cases were approved with little or no public opposition, while at least one rezoning prompted sustained neighborhood opposition and was denied with prejudice.
