The Douglas County Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend that the Board of County Commissioners adopt the 2025 update to the Carson River Floodplain Management Plan, following a presentation from Carson Water Subconservancy District staff and questions from commissioners.
Courtney Walker, stormwater program manager for Douglas County, introduced the Carson Water Subconservancy District presenters and described the county's relationship with the regional plan. "We've coordinated quite a few projects together," Walker said, noting that CWSD acts as a FEMA cooperating technical partner and that the plan helps counties secure FEMA funding and participate in the Community Rating System that can reduce flood insurance premiums.
The plan, originally prepared in 2008 and updated periodically, presents a watershed-scale approach to reduce flood risk across Alpine, Storey, Douglas, Carson City, Lyon and Churchill counties. Debbie (Carson Water…
