The Plymouth‑Canton Community Schools Board of Education on the evening of the meeting approved a resolution to hire Joseph Green as the district’s executive director of high school education. The board voted 5–0 on a first-and-final reading to confirm the appointment.
Superintendent Monica Merritt told the board the district recommended Mr. Green after a multi-stage interview process. Merritt said Green comes from Farmington Public Schools, where he served 14 years as a high school principal, and that he was a unanimous choice of the hiring panel. “He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, calm,” Merritt said, and the board confirmed the hire during the meeting.
Board members raised questions about administrative staffing levels and budget uncertainty. Member Sheryl Picard expressed concern about the district becoming “top heavy” with administrators and asked that the board be kept informed. In response, Merritt described the district’s budget process and said human‑resources recommendations were prioritized and modeled across a three‑year projection; she also reiterated the board’s fund‑balance policy and described internal steps to prioritize positions if state or federal funding changes require reductions.
Member Jennifer Voss said she would vote to approve Mr. Green’s hiring but reiterated reservations about administrative growth and asked whether the board could be notified when new administrative positions are posted so members could provide early input. Merritt said the director of high schools position was not a newly created post but a vacancy the district filled and agreed to provide earlier notice when genuinely new positions are proposed.
After the vote, Joseph Green addressed the board and attendees, thanking the district and saying he was “terribly excited” to join Plymouth‑Canton Community Schools. He added, “Developing leaders is one of the most important things we can possibly do,” and said he would focus on building capacity among principals and assistant principals.
