Summary
At a regular meeting of the Tea Area School District 41-5 board, members approved several policy second readings, confirmed new hires and resignations, raised the adult lunch price to $5.15 per state formula, and added an executive session for personnel matters.
Tea Area School District 41-5 board members voted unanimously to approve several policy updates, accept a slate of resignations and new hires, raise the adult lunch price to $5.15 per meal and add an executive session for personnel.
The actions came during a regularly scheduled board meeting; board members moved and seconded each item and recorded voice votes with no opposition on the public record.
The board approved second readings of multiple district policies without changes since their July first readings. The policies voted on were listed by code: GCDP (criminal background checks), GCDBC (criminal background checks for contractors and volunteers), BBB (school board election), IGBA (special education and related services), JEA (compulsory attendance ages) and JECE (student withdrawal). The board recorded no changes to the language since the prior meeting and approved each policy by voice vote.
Camille K., business manager, briefed the board on a routine change to the adult meal price. "Every year, the state gets a formula for our adult meal pricing, and they just finally got that first part of this month. So, our adult meal price was at $5. Per the new formula, we need to increase it to $5.15 for adult lunch," Camille said. A motion to set the adult lunch price at $5.15 per meal was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board also reviewed a list of resignations and new hires. The meeting transcript records resignations for Lane Kropinski (middle school football), Kara March (food service), Kathy Retsloff (business office) and Les Schroeder (food service). New hires confirmed by motion include Dylan Albrecht (eighth-grade assistant football), Cameron Axman (assistant, 1-act play), Pamela Boby (task aid), Angela Kuka (food service), Linda Hansen (food service), Renee Holt (food service), Chrissy Heidinger (special education administrative assistant), Andrew Masters (custodial), Morgan McKellip (middle school assistant drama), Theresa Reaver (transportation), Rachel Rissy (seventh-grade head volleyball), Rochelle Simpson (food service), Krista Waldner (custodial) and Christina Westoff (eighth-grade head volleyball). The board also acknowledged transfers: Anna Draveland from custodial to middle school paraprofessional and Jolie Costenson from high school paraprofessional to high school librarian. A single motion to approve the resignations, hires and transfers passed by voice vote.
Administrative staff told the board the district has several long-term substitute placements that may require filing administrative waivers with the South Dakota Department of Education; staff said the Department will advise which situations require waivers and that no motion was required at this time.
Near the end of the meeting, the board moved to add an executive session for personnel to the agenda; the motion was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. The board later voted to enter the executive session under the cited reference (transcribed as "-25-2.1"). The public record shows the motions and the board’s unanimous voice votes; no roll-call tallies with individual member names were provided on the transcript.
The meeting concluded with the board entering the executive session for personnel matters.
