The Chatham County Board of Education on Aug. 11 voted to approve the district’s consolidated federal grant application for the 2025–26 school year.
District staff presented the application and budget planning totals—about $2.5 million overall—with a decrease of roughly $116,000 from the prior year. Staff said most of the reduction was in Title I Part A (about $102,000). The board heard that Title I funds support schools with high concentrations of low-income students and that set‑asides will be used for pre-K, homeless education and targeted school-level positions.
Miss Little, executive director for Title I/Multilingual Education and Pre-K, described the federal grant components (Title I Part A, Title I Part C migrant education, Title II, Title III, and Title IV) and noted timing uncertainties for some allotments: the migrant allotment had not yet been uploaded by the state education department and Title III adjustments depend on the October headcount. The consolidated application and recommended allocations were presented for board approval.
A motion to approve the consolidated application carried with the board’s approval on voice vote.
Ending: District staff said the allocation preserves staffing and student supports despite a modest year-over-year reduction in federal funds.
