Council receives updates on Sunnyvale parks: ISD fields, Vineyard and Jobson projects

Sunnyvale ISD fields: Staff said the town executed an MOU with Sunnyvale ISD and construction began in June 2025 with a projected completion date of Oct. 1, 2025. The field complex is a roughly $2 million project that will provide multiuse turf areas: a soccer field, a football field, a track surface (turf lines shown), and capacity for two practice baseball fields and a lacrosse configuration. Staff said the fields will be maintained and scheduled by the school under the MOU and that the town’s paid contribution will be cash‑funded.
Vineyard Park: Staff reported that geotechnical work is nearly complete and the design‑build approach with Hellas is being finalized. The design team has been addressing drainage and adjacent property coordination; staff said a tentative construction start of September 2025 is possible with a projected completion now estimated for January 2026. The Vineyard Park design/build budget was presented at roughly $1.9 million.
Jobson Park: The council was reminded the design contract with Half Associates was executed in April 2025 and survey and geotech work is underway. Staff presented two cost options for Jobson Park: a $7 million version with fewer amenities and a $13 million (approximately $12–13M) full‑build option — design will proceed and staff said the project timeline anticipates bidding in early 2026, a May 2026 construction start and completion in October 2027 under a full‑build scenario. Staff stressed the project scope will be refined through design and public engagement and that a subsequent council action will be required for final construction authorization.
Councilmembers asked about maintenance responsibilities, scheduling of multiuse fields, potential baseball practice layouts and the need for equipment to maintain turf fields. Staff noted the school will maintain the ISD fields under the MOU; Vineyard Park will be maintained by the town once complete. Council asked staff to bring back details on maintenance equipment and ongoing costs for turf fields before final contract approval.
Council did not take formal action on the presentations; staff will return with formal contract documents and funding recommendations as projects advance.
