Council orders Nov. 4 special election to fill Place 4 vacancy; filing period to open Aug. 12
Summary
Following a July resignation, Sunnyvale council ordered a special election for Nov. 4 to fill the unexpired term for Town Council Place 4; the filing period was set to open Aug. 12 and run through Sept. 3.
After accepting the resignation of Councilmember Eldridge earlier in July, Sunnyvale Town Council on Aug. 11 passed an ordinance ordering a special election to fill the unexpired term for Town Council Place 4.
Town staff said Section 3.06(d) of the Town’s Home Rule Charter and the Texas Election Code require a special election to fill the vacancy within 120 days. The council adopted Ordinance 2025‑O10 to order the election for the next uniform election date, Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025. The filing period for Place 4 will open Aug. 12 at 8 a.m. and close Sept. 3 at 5 p.m., staff said; because the order started the process, the filing period may open only after the ordinance is adopted.
Councilmember Allen moved to approve the ordinance to order the special election; the motion was seconded and the council voted as recorded in the meeting. Staff noted the ordinance is a single‑reading election ordinance and does not require a second reading. The packet and filing instructions will be available from the town secretary’s office, staff said.
No public hearing was required for the item and no public commenters spoke on the election ordinance at the meeting.
