The Manhattan‑Ogden USD 383 Board of Education approved two vehicle purchases during its Aug. 6 meeting: a driver‑education vehicle and four school buses.
Driver education: The board approved a specified bid from Hendricks Chevrolet of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, for a 2025 Chevrolet Trax RS at $27,078 to be used by the district’s driver education program. The motion to approve that bid was made and seconded and passed 5‑0.
School buses: The board authorized purchase through the Kansas State Department of Education Kansas bus purchasing program for Midwest Transit of three new 71‑passenger buses in the amount of $453,489 and one wheelchair‑accessible bus estimated at $156,870. That purchase motion also passed 5‑0.
Board discussion credited district transportation and procurement staff for planning and timing purchases to avoid emergency buys. One board member noted that vehicle acquisitions were part of a longer multi‑year capital plan established by previous administrations and maintained by current staff.
Next steps: The district will follow Kansas State Department of Education procurement procedures for bus orders and coordinate delivery and fleet assignments with transportation staff. The approved purchases were entered into the board minutes and will proceed to procurement and payment according to district process.
