Christina Mendoza, a resident of 6943 Santa Fe Drive in Overland Park, told the City Council on Aug. 4 that activities at the nearby Melbourne Country Club are producing noise, traffic and parking problems that have persisted for years.
Mendoza said the club has received “preferred treatment by the Overland Park Kansas City government,” which she said has allowed ongoing ordinance violations and discouraged police enforcement. She said the club’s expanded activities have intruded on the quiet residential character of her neighborhood, blocked views, increased noise and created traffic congestion and unsafe parking near a dangerous curve on Santa Fe Drive.
"It's a dangerous curve. It's a poor view around the curve, the traffic, and requires no parking because it is a dangerous street," Mendoza said. She told the council she has lived on Santa Fe Drive for about 20 years and said the situation has grown worse over time. Mendoza said the conditions are causing anxiety and safety concerns for her family. "This is stressing me out anxiety, safety of my family and my home," she said.
Mendoza asked the council to resolve the matter; she said she has raised the complaint before. The transcript records no immediate council response during the public comment period.
