Lindsey Nielsen, director of the Central Wasatch Commission (CWC), asked the Sandy City Council to approve the addition of the city of Holiday as a voting member of the CWC under the commission’s interlocal agreement.
Mayor Monica Zolcanski introduced Nielsen and described the CWC as a coalition of communities that synthesizes information about air and water quality, wildlife, vegetation and recreational access in the Central Wasatch Mountains; Nielsen said the commission’s environmental dashboard is an available public asset. She also described the CWC’s role in canyon traffic mitigation, noting the commission’s funding support for a bus-bypass system at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon and other outreach and internship programs.
Nielsen told the council the admission request is administrative: “Every single one of our existing members has already or will very soon also approve the addition of the city of Holiday to the board,” she said. The commission’s interlocal agreement requires approval by existing members for any new voting member; Nielsen added that Holiday had been involved in the earlier Mountain Accord process about a decade ago and that recent interest in the commission’s work prompted the request for membership.
Council members had no questions during the presentation; the item was informational and staff said the request will come back for council action consistent with the interlocal agreement process if required.
