The Lenoir City Schools Board of Education on July 22 approved tenure for two teachers, ratified the district's annual school nutrition compliance plan for 2025'—2026 and adopted a slate of policy revisions, most on unanimous roll-call votes.
The board awarded tenure to Beth Lockhart and Rachel Bowles (names recorded in board packets and discussed at the meeting). The board heard brief remarks from colleagues praising both educators for classroom leadership and district contributions before voting to approve tenure.
The board also approved the district's school nutrition compliance plan for the 2025'—2026 school year, a required annual submission to confirm compliance with state and federal nutrition rules administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. School nutrition staff prepared the report for board review; trustees approved it with no recorded opposition.
In a single series of agenda votes, the board approved multiple policy revisions presented as first and final readings. Policies and codes listed by staff and approved by the board included: A3.202 (emergency preparedness plans); B3.204 (threat assessment team); C4.1 (instructional program); D4.301 (interscholastic athletics); E4.406 (use of the Internet); F5.5 (discrimination and harassment); G6.304 (student discrimination, harassment, bullying, cyberbullying and intimidation); page 6.312 (use of wireless communication devices); and 6.411 (student levels). All motions were moved and carried by roll call, with Tammy Powell, Mitch Ledbetter, Lacey Murray and Chris Clavo recorded as voting "Aye." No dissenting votes were recorded on the listed policy items.
The board approved the executive committee's financial items for June 2025, including cash disbursements and the summary financial statement, along with professional leave, fundraising and field-trip requests.
An "incident report" agenda item was listed as a placeholder for a new quarterly report required by state law and board policy; the board noted there were no incidents to report at this time.
During the director's comments, district leadership thanked staff who led a new-teacher boot camp, named several participants and highlighted upcoming calendar dates: teachers return July 24; a back-to-school breakfast with alumni is set for July 29; registration day is Aug. 1; staggered orientation (last names A'K) is Aug. 4 and (L'Z) Aug. 5; and the first day of school is Aug. 6. The director also recognized Lenoir City Councilman Todd Kennedy for arranging coffee trucks to thank school staff.
The meeting adjourned following routine business.
