Amelia Island, Fla. — Amelia Island Convention and Visitors Bureau staff told the Tourist Development Council on July 23 that summer booking momentum, group business and trade-show outreach have produced a stronger-than-expected performance for the destination through July and that the bureau is rolling out a dining-month campaign and a brand-assessment led by its agency of record.
Joseph Saint Germain, president of Saint Germain Research, presented April–June performance data and said visitation and direct spending were up year over year. “Visitation is up and I'm focusing more on the percentage change on the right, but visitation is up, direct spending is up, up slightly,” Saint Germain said, summarizing the quarter’s metrics. The bureau reported vacation-rental performance up about 4% through June and said booking windows have shortened, with a notable increase in group bookings for July and August.
The bureau highlighted a large trade-show presence at IPW in Chicago, where staff reported about 200 scheduled meetings with international and domestic travel buyers and said the booth drew strong attention. Paul Bierons said the bureau’s IPW pavilion was intended to “box above our weight class” and that the exposure produced follow-up interest from tour operators and meeting planners.
Marketing and events The CVB said it was reaccredited under the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program, a validation the bureau said applies to about 12% of DMOs globally. Staff also previewed a strategic theme and brand work the bureau is developing with StarMark; the agency is conducting a brand assessment ahead of a larger FY26 campaign.
Staff introduced Amelia Island Dining Month, set for September, which will feature participating restaurants offering fixed-price menus ($55 and $75 tiers). Participating signature restaurants cited in the presentation include Salt, Burlingame, Espana, Indigo, The Patio, Baxter’s, Lagnap, Crab Trap and Café Karibo (names as presented). The campaign will route $1 from every dining-month cover to a designated charity; this year the benefiting nonprofit is Blessings in a Backpack, a program that provides weekend meals to schoolchildren.
PR and social media updates Madison Joseph, PR and social media manager, said the bureau has had recent national coverage and partnerships, including a Penguin Random House sweepstakes tied to a paperback launch that generated about 31,000 entries and produced at least one confirmed visit. “We just received our bridal and leisure number 2 island in the country for the second year, so we're really proud of that,” Joseph said.
Policy and air service notes Staff also discussed recent state legislative language that would allow certain TDT funds to be used for certified lifeguards and—under narrow definitions—for infrastructure in fiscally constrained counties. Council members asked staff to research the new language and return with legal guidance for Nassau County; staff noted that the county currently does not use TDT dollars for lifeguards and that existing lifeguard services are supported through an interlocal contract between the city and the county.
Local outlook Bierons and staff said the CVB’s FY25–26 planning assumes a flat operating budget with targeted incremental media spending to protect peak-season performance and grow shoulder-season visitation. Staff said that while visitors' wallets may be tighter, last-minute bookings and group rebookings tied to rescheduled events have been a factor in the recent recovery.
