Board approves Title 3 funding request for Gaski Fire repeaters; county staff to pursue alternate pot for SAR vehicle

The Del Norte County Board of Supervisors directed staff to process a Title 3 funding application submitted by the Gaski Fire Protection District for $47,511.50 to purchase and install two ATLAS 1,200 repeaters and associated communications equipment at Camp 6.
Staff explained there is another, older Title 3 funding pot administered through the county that appears better suited to fund the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue request for a Ford F‑150 pickup (application for $45,361). The alternate fund — described by staff as a planning division pot with about $400,000 available for forest‑related planning uses — has different eligibility language and a longer obligation timeline, and staff said they would return at the next meeting with a separate board report for the search and rescue application if the board prefers.
Supervisor comments supported the repeater purchase because of documented communications gaps in the Gaski area; the board approved the Gaski Fire application by unanimous vote.
