Riverside holds public hearing on proposed 2025 property tax levy for village and library

The Village of Riverside Board of Trustees held a public hearing Thursday on the proposed 2025 property tax levy for the Village of Riverside and the Riverside Public Library, during which officials presented levy totals, took no public comment and adjourned the hearing by voice vote.
Clerk Stenzel said the notice of the public hearing had been announced at the Oct. 2, 2025, board meeting and published in the Landmark on Oct. 8, 2025. The notice reported the proposed corporate and special-purpose property tax to be levied for 2025 as $8,144,709, up from $7,747,492 in 2024. The notice also reported estimated total property taxes extended or abated for 2024 as $8,315,983 and an estimated combined total for 2025 of $8,652,459, which the notice said represents about a 4.05% increase over the previous year.
The notice included figures for debt-service and public-building-commission lease levies: $525,523 in 2024 and an estimated $507,750 for 2025, a decrease the notice described as about 3.38%. The notice broke out the 2025 debt-service estimate as $381,750 for the village and $126,000 for the library.
The board took no questions from the public during the hearing. After the reading of the notice, a board member moved to adjourn the public hearing; another board member seconded the motion. The motion passed by voice vote with all members saying “aye” and no one speaking in opposition. The board then returned to the regular agenda.
The figures reported at the hearing were read into the record by Clerk Stenzel. A line in the read notice that appears in the transcript to list a library levy figure that is inconsistent with the other totals was unclear in the record; the combined totals above are those reported in the notice as read. The board did not adopt the levy at this hearing; it conducted a public hearing and then adjourned the hearing, with further levy actions to be taken at a later agenda item or meeting if and as scheduled.
