Crockett council accepts workforce-office lease offer at Botec Center; $15.22 monthly plus share of utilities

Staff said the workforce agency had been on a month-to-month arrangement and that the organization proposed a lease amount based on an average of five comparable sites the agency currently leases. Staff told council the offer was $15.22 per month for the 1,800-square-foot office plus a share of expenses and utilities, and that if the agency were asked to pay more than its stated average the agency would request a formal procurement process.
Staff member: “This is the dollar amount that Workforce came to us with. This is what their average rent for their facilities are, and this is what they want to pay,” a city staff member said. Staff also said the current utilities at the building have been paid by the primary tenant (referred to in discussion as Provalis/Provella’s), and the proposed arrangement would reimburse utilities between the two entities rather than leaving the city as middleman.
Councilmember Marsh made the motion to accept the workforce offer; the motion was seconded and the council voted to accept it. The clerk announced the motion carried.
Staff said the action taken was to accept the value and direction for a lease; the actual lease document will be drafted and returned to council for final approval. Staff said the initial term discussed would be one year, renewable annually, and that the workforce agency has other funding streams and requested the rate based on its averages. Staff noted that if the council wanted a different rental amount the workforce agency had indicated it would need to undergo a procurement process.
What’s next: staff will draft a formal lease reflecting the $15.22 monthly offer plus the agreed cost-sharing of utilities and return it to council for approval.
