Representatives from the Greene County Career Center and Bellbrook High School updated the Board of Education on Oct. 23 about program expansion, student achievements and community partnerships.
Adam Romali, the district's Greene County Career Center representative, told the board the career center is planning space and program expansions to accommodate growing student interest, including welding and culinary, and noted recent private donations to support capital needs. "There s been a focus on donations; Cincinnati donated $500,000 to the school," Romali said, and he reported additional six-figure contributions that would position the center to expand facilities if enrollment and employer demand continue.
A high-school staff presenter identified as Chad summarized performance indicators and student outcomes: the school reported students earned a substantial volume of college-credit hours through College Credit Plus (1,481 credits last year) and high AP/CCP participation rates. Chad said the district conferred 78 Advanced Placement and CCP courses, recognized National Merit semifinalists and commended students, and that 189 students took CCP courses with a 95% passing rate on over 400 exams in the past year.
The high school also outlined career-exploration events planned for sophomores and targeted career camps with community partners: "Hammer Time" (construction), "Scrubs Day" (health occupations), EMT/first responders and IT days, intended for students deciding among college, career or apprenticeship options. Staff noted that some employers prefer invitation-only events aimed at students actively seeking local employment.
Counselor Deborah Sanderden was announced as an accepted participant in the Fulbright teacher-exchange program; board presenters said she was selected from a competitive national pool and would participate in a yearlong professional-development placement overseas.
Ending: Board members thanked presenters and noted the district will continue coordinating with the Greene County Career Center on expansion planning and community partnerships; no board action was required on these reports.
