The council granted preliminary approval to the Ashland Street Dedication Section 7 preliminary plat, which connects through Sapphire Springs east of FM 521 and proposes a segment of the proposed boulevard linking adjacent sections.
Staff said the planning commission recommended approval (6–0) after clearing textual corrections. Council members raised traffic and safety concerns connected to school-related peak flows and asked staff to continue coordination with the county and State Highway Department on a feeder-road connection and possible funding options. Staff said the county has expressed interest in addressing some of the connectivity and safety issues but that funding allocations remain to be negotiated.
Council voted to approve the preliminary plat by voice vote.
Why it matters: the preliminary plat advances local subdivision street dedication and highlights multi-jurisdictional coordination needed to address traffic and safety concerns around school traffic and future development.
