The Angleton City Council approved an ordinance annexing approximately 26.084 acres that complete a previously discussed parcel associated with the White Oak substation near East Mulberry Street (Highway 35).
City staff said the annexation stems from a prior special use permit (SUP) and that the annexation “cleans up” a carve-out on the city limits map so the remainder of the substation parcel sits entirely inside city limits. Staff told council the applicant did not submit zoning concurrently with the annexation; the city expects the applicant to seek a zoning action (likely an SUP over a commercial overlay) following annexation.
During council questions, staff confirmed the annexation includes a small maintenance structure that will need minimal services (a small restroom) and that needed easements are shown on the submitted plat. The council opened and closed the public hearing with no speakers.
Mayor Pro Tem Townsend moved to approve the annexation ordinance; Councilman Sarton seconded. The council voted to approve the annexation and staff said the action will allow the applicant to return for any needed zoning and SUP steps.
