State Rep. Mitch Rosenwald briefs Tamarac commission on housing, insurance and property tax proposals

State Representative Mitch Rosenwald, who represents parts of Tamarac as well as surrounding municipalities, addressed the commission on Sept. 10 with an update about issues likely to appear in the next legislative session and offered to work with the city on local appropriations.
Rosenwald listed several topics: housing affordability initiatives (including measures aimed at condo owner reserves and structural assessments), extension of a condo pilot program related to hardening against hurricanes, and proposals to address property insurance costs. He said one idea he is exploring would shift some catastrophic wind risk handling to a state fund model to reduce homeowner premiums, though he described that concept as a “paradigm shift” requiring broad debate.
He also referenced a recent constitutional amendment change that tightens requirements for citizen petition initiatives and expressed concern about the effect on ballot access. Rosenwald noted bipartisan action to protect state parks from recreational overdevelopment and said he and other legislators are continuing work on health care and veterans/homelessness measures. He encouraged residents to contact his office with legislative suggestions and said his office would forward a legislative newsletter to the city clerk.
The commission thanked Rosenwald for the briefing and asked a few clarifying questions on specifics of state bills and local appropriations.
