A member of the public used the meeting's public-comment period to accuse the person who oversees the county Child Advocacy Center of neglecting children and urged the county to remove the center from District Attorney oversight or make it independent.
The commenter identified themselves as a parent and said they reported alleged abuse involving their children to the Child Advocacy Center in 2017 without receiving a referral or follow-up. "I told him way back in 2017 about the abuse of my own children... I told him that in 2017 thinking that he would do something to, protect my children, but he he didn't do anything. He just ignored it," the speaker said. The speaker named a person (transcript: "Jeff Rosen") as overseeing the Child Advocacy Center and asked whether control of the center could be transferred to another agency or made independent of the District Attorney's Office.
The speaker said they sought referrals and screenings through the center and alleged they were ignored, urging the committee to act to prevent perceived unchecked authority. The speaker noted that county taxpayers fund the Child Advocacy Center and said, "Can we not transfer control of the Child Advocacy Center to another agency or make them independent of the, district attorney's office?"
The committee did not take action on the comment during the meeting; public comment items are a standing agenda slot and do not by themselves trigger staff action unless referred by the committee. No county staff or DA office representative provided a response on the record during the meeting transcript.
