Oxford Area School District reviews 2025-26 student handbooks; board requests withdrawal‑form language and corrects typo

Superintendent Dr. Woods presented three student handbooks at the Aug. 12 Oxford Area School District Board work session — the elementary handbook, the Pennsgrove student handbook and the Oxford Area High School student handbook — and reminded the board that the handbooks are distributed digitally and can be edited during the year after board approval.
A board member asked the district to add language to the elementary handbook’s withdrawal and transfer section (page 12) to note the existence of an official district withdrawal request form and to encourage parents to complete it before moving. The transcripted suggestion read in part that parents should be “encouraged” to complete the Oxford Area School District official withdrawal request form in addition to signing any required record‑release forms. Dr. Woods and another staff member said they would add language that preserves the existing requirement that a parent or guardian must sign a record‑release form before student records are released to a receiving school, and also add wording to encourage use of the district’s withdrawal request form to help the district track transfers.
A separate editorial correction was flagged on page 25 in the student rights and responsibilities section: the transcript shows the handbook currently uses the word “confidentially” where the board member recommended it be corrected to “confidentiality.” Dr. Woods acknowledged that change and staff agreed to make the correction.
Dr. Woods noted that the handbooks are maintained digitally and that certain edits can be made during the year without additional board action once the board has approved the handbooks.
No formal action or vote was recorded at the work session on the handbook edits; the board asked staff to incorporate the recommended language and corrections for the board’s review.
