Public hearing on Material Sandstone project delayed; town seeks date-certain after consultant meetings

Town Administrator Scott Gibbs told the council that the town planner had informed council members of a Sept. 15 public hearing date in earlier communications, but the required advertising in the newspaper had not occurred. Gibbs said the applicant’s key technical consultant had been unavailable for several weeks and that the applicant had not provided written reports to GZA, the town’s hired reviewer, which has slowed the review process.
“I am extremely frustrated, and I'm disappointed,” Gibbs told the council, describing repeated delays. He said the administration planned a meeting with the applicant and consultant and would ask the applicant to commit to a date certain — and to reimburse the town for advertising if notices need repeating.
GZA, the town’s third‑party reviewer, has reviewed videos and meeting audio but still needs to tour the site and meet the applicant’s technical team. Gibbs said he expects a draft report after the scheduled meetings and that both the town and the applicant would need time to review the report before a public hearing is scheduled.
Why it matters: The quarry/materials matter has generated public comment and technical review requests. A timely, fully documented review is necessary to satisfy procedural notice requirements and to give residents and the council a clear evidentiary basis for any action.
