Rodeo committee reports stronger attendance and outlines facility upgrades; council to review water taps, bleachers and chutes

Members of the Lone Rangers rodeo committee updated the Beaver City Council on Aug. 26 about the recent rodeo and a list of facility improvements they want to pursue.
Committee members said the Fourth of July rodeo’s second night was “standing room only” and that attendance is likely to grow as future dates move to weekends. The committee thanked the city for operational support and said more events would attract visitors and local spending.
Priority maintenance and upgrade requests included restoring or adding culinary water taps at several points around the arena (including a frost‑free hydrant on the southeast corner that currently does not work); installing an accessible water faucet on the west side of the new restrooms to allow competitors to fill buckets and water horses; stabilizing and repairing existing bleachers; adding elevated bleachers on the north side of the arena so spectators can see over panels; and replacing or improving rough-stock chutes and lead-up alleys. Committee members said a Prefer-brand representative (company that manufactures livestock panels/chutes) took measurements and will provide a price list for replacing or improving panels and chutes.
Council and staff discussed near-term fixes that city crews could perform in October/November, after the high-use summer season, including leveling and anchoring bleachers, checking frost-free hydrants and adding taps tied into existing mains. The city manager agreed staff would collect an itemized winter work list and pricing and coordinate with the committee.
The committee also raised operational issues such as trailer parking during events and the need for more permanent seating; council members discussed longer-term options including expanded parking and potential site relocation if the city decides to invest heavily in a future permanent arena.
